IGNITE Mentorship Program

The IGNITE Entrepreneur Mentor Program gives students from all disciplines the opportunity to build relationships and learn directly from the experiences of successful Rowan entrepreneurs and leaders. Through weekly forums, business visits and hands-on experience in real-life business ventures. Up to three scholarships are awarded each semester to students who demonstrate a commitment to cultivating entrepreneurial skills throughout their lives.

About

Students are selected from a pool of candidates who have made a commitment to building experiences resulting in the enhancement of their entrepreneurial skills. Each student is assigned 1-2 volunteer community leaders who will serve as mentors by providing support, counsel, and direction in the student’s effort to pursue an entrepreneurial path in life.

Program Structure

IGNITE will gather at the RCIE (Business Hall 209) or other specified business locations from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Fridays with an optional lunch from 12:00-12:30 p.m. From 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. we meet as a group to build skills, plan projects and develop camaraderie.

Each student is required to complete a series of assessments that will provide feedback on skills and aptitudes. These are critically important to your development as an entrepreneur and it is essential that you not only go through the assessments, but also reflect on the feedback and how the information will assist you.

Students will be assigned a mentor(s) with the expectation of meeting with the individual(s) 2-3 times a month. A number of social events for students and mentors will be scheduled to facilitate engagement as well as provide access to all mentors for each student.

Field trips will be scheduled each semester. In the Spring, we have a field trip to North Jersey and New York City. In the Fall, we have a field trip to South Jersey and Philadelphia.

This is not a traditional class where students are passive and teachers/presenters are active. Indeed, to take full advantage of what is offered, you need to disassociate yourself from the “class model” each Friday. It is an expectation and requirement that students will take ownership and become fully engaged in the IGNITE Entrepreneurship Mentor Program. Our role is to facilitate and provide resources to you individually and collectively to achieve the goals of the IGNITE Entrepreneurship Mentor Program.
